Delhi University Honours Alumni On Foundation Day Celebrations

On Saturday, Delhi University honoured its distinguished graduates, including Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Kiren Rijiju, as well as director Imtiaz Ali.

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of its 99th Foundation Day on Saturday, Delhi University honoured its renowned graduates, including Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Kiren Rijiju, as well as director Imtiaz Ali.

The university’s Foundation Day occurs on May 1, however owing to an increase of COVID-19 cases in April and May, the celebration could not be held at that time this year. The university had stated that eight of its graduates, including Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Hardeep Singh Puri, will be honoured for their achievements in respective areas.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Higher Education Secretary in the Ministry of Education Amit Khare, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary P K Mishra, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and IPS officer Kiran Bedi, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Indrajeet Mahanty, and Uttar Pradesh State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar were among the others on the list.

Despite studying at St Stephen’s College, which is close to the university, Khare stated it was his first time inside the Viceregal Lodge. Professor P C Joshi, the interim Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, discussed the university’s numerous efforts. He also mentioned that starting in the 2022-23 academic year, the university will implement the National Education Policy.
