New Delhi: With reports of counterfeit Covishield vaccines circulating on the international market, a worry raised by even the World Health Organization, the Centre released a list of characteristics on Saturday to determine the authenticity of Covid vaccines used in the country.
The criteria would aid in determining if the vaccine is real or counterfeit, according to a letter from the Health Ministry to the states. It was created using data from the firms that manufacture Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V, the three vaccines currently on the Indian market.
The vaccine manufacturer’s label, colour, and other characteristics are included in the notice submitted to the states.
Several recent reports suggest that counterfeit versions of Covishield, India’s major anti-COVID-19 vaccination, have been discovered in Southeast Asia and Africa. According to media reports, some of the counterfeit copies are also being marketed across the country.
