Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) have been established by the Tribal Affairs Ministry to provide excellent education to tribal children in rural regions around the country.
ODISHA: Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu said on Wednesday that 64 new Ekalavya schools have been approved for Odisha, with 16 of them set to open this fiscal year in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district.
To minimise the dropout rate among tribal females, all blocks in the Mayurbhanj district were assigned schools with toilet facilities and water supply systems, according to Tudu, who is also the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs. During a visit to his electorate after being sworn in as minister, the Mayurbhanj MP told media reporters in Baripada that the project’s procurement procedure had already been finished.
The Tribal Affairs Ministry has been establishing Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in rural regions around the country to provide quality education to tribal children in their native environment. An EMRS would be installed in every block with a Scheduled Tribes population of 50% or more and at least 20,000 ST people.
Tudu highlighted a number of initiatives in the Mayurbhanj district aimed at developing different industries like as aviation, railways, tourism, and roads. According to him, the Udan plan has incorporated the Rasgobindpur airport, which was used during WWII but is now in ruins.
A domestic airport will be built “very soon,” and a Civil Aviation Ministry delegation would soon inspect the location. According to Tudu, a new railway line from Bangriposhi to Gorumahishani would also be operating. The Union government has sanctioned an additional Rs 265 crore for the improvement of NH-18 and NH-49, the two national roads that run through Mayurbhanj district, he said.
The minister charged that the ruling BJD administration had “hijacked” several federal programmes and rebranded them as state ones. “Despite the fact that the Jal Jeevan Mission has sanctioned for Rs 3,323 crore, the state government publicised the projects as its own,” Tudu, who is also the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, added. He stated that a variety of projects for the development of the Similipal Tiger Reserve will be established in order to increase tourism and improve tribal people’s livelihoods.
A ropeway will be erected to lure tourists to the Barehipani waterfall, which is located within the national park, according to Tudu. In Krishnachandrapur, the minister also launched a foot overbridge, stating that it would be of tremendous assistance to the residents. “The main objective is progress, and all-round development is the foundation of my life,” he tweeted with images from the inauguration.
