According to a study conducted by Cornell University (USA) that looked into the links between social media addiction and college students’ mental health and academic performance, addictive social media use will appear similar to any other component use disorder and may include mood swings, salience (i.e., behavioural, cognitive, and emotional preoccupation with social media), a wide range of tolerance capacity, and a variety of other symptoms.
According to the findings, when social media users repeat a repeating pattern of alleviating unpleasant temperaments with social media use, their psychological reliance on the platform grows, and their day-to-day and vital activities suffer.
The danger is higher for those attempting to pass national level admission examinations. Clearing IIT JEE or NEET, as previously said, is no stroll in the park and needs extreme focus and discipline.
The objective of this essay is not to say that using social media is bad, but rather to emphasise that it should not divert you from your goals or disrupt your daily routine. Before it becomes an addiction, you must keep a close eye on your social media activity and set limits. However, if you have the necessary control and discipline, utilising social media for amusement or motivating purposes during study breaks will not hurt you.
